Dear Editor,
On May 5th, our community has an important opportunity to invest in the future of our schools by voting “yes” on the PLSD Income Tax Enhancement. This measure is about more than funding. It is about supporting the classrooms, students, and educators who are the heart of our district.
This income tax is critical to maintaining the strength of our schools. It directly funds the day-to-day operations that keep our district running smoothly and effectively.
Without it, we risk losing valuable programs that enrich our students’ educational experiences, including electives and related arts that help children discover their passions and talents beyond core subjects.
One of the most important aspects of this proposal is that it keeps every dollar right here in our district, directly supporting our students and classrooms. It also provides a fair way for the community to contribute, basing support on income rather than property value. This ensures a more balanced approach that reflects the ability to pay.
Additionally, this measure protects retirees by keeping Social Security income tax-free, making it a thoughtful option for all members of our community.
Strong schools build strong communities. By voting yes on May 5th, we are choosing to invest in our children, preserve opportunities for students, and ensure our district remains a place where families want to live and learn.
Sincerely,
Lisa Tinsley
