As 2025 comes to a close, Flying Horse Farms is celebrating a milestone: 15 years of serving children with serious illnesses and their families.

Founded in 2010, Flying Horse Farms is a medical specialty camp that provides transformative camp experiences—completely free of charge—for children facing complex health conditions. Beyond addressing physical illnesses, the camp also supports the emotional and mental health challenges that often accompany them.

Since opening its doors, Flying Horse Farms has served 12,670 campers, including 4,878 residential campers and 5,400 participants in its family camp program. Campers and families navigate a wide range of diagnoses, including blood disorders, cancer, craniofacial conditions, gastrointestinal disorders, heart conditions, kidney disorders, lung conditions, rheumatologic diagnoses, spinal cord diagnoses, transplants, rare diseases, and internalizing mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

The camp ensures every child is safe and supported through on-site medical and psychosocial care, a trauma-informed approach, and accessible, inclusive programming. The goal is simple but powerful: to give every camper the chance to just be a kid.

“Over the last 15 years, more than 8,500 volunteer placements—totaling nearly half a million hours—have created a safe, medically supported, joy-filled environment where campers can just be kids, meet friends who understand, gain confidence, and build hope that extends far beyond camp,” the organization shared in a media release.

The impact is also reflected in the words of the campers themselves. When asked to finish the sentence “Camp is…,” responses included “awesome,” “incredible,” and “magical.” One camper summed it up this way: “Even though everyone is different, it’s still magical ’cause camp is magical.”

As the anniversary year concludes, Flying Horse Farms is inviting the community to help power the next 15 years. Those interested in supporting the mission can visit the organization’s website to make a donation or explore volunteer opportunities.
