Style In Star Trek
How does the distinctive visual and cinematic style of Star Trek: The Original Series set it apart from later series and films?
In an engaging talk on Sunday, July 13, at 2:00 pm, Robert Spadoni, associate professor in the Department of English at Case Western University, explores how elements like editing, lighting and audiovisual techniques shape the viewer’s experience and add to the show’s lasting impact.
A fan of the series since the 1970s, Spadoni will dive into techniques such as editing and lighting that have contributed – and continue to contribute today – to viewers’ enjoyment of the episodes.
“Because narrative considerations cannot be separated from stylistic ones, developing a broader view of the substance and functioning of the original Star Trek should help us deepen our sense of the ongoing appeal and significance of this landmark series,” he said.
