If you want to catch the Pickerington Community Theatre’s (PCT) production of Disney’s Frozen Junior, stop what you are doing and buy the tickets now.  The musical, which began its run December 2, has four more performances this upcoming weekend, and tickets are selling out.

The show, which features all of the songs from the film plus five new songs written for Broadway, has elicited strong responses from capacity crowds.

“We’ve gotten some really heartwarming and spectacular reactions from the audience members, especially the younger ones,” Director Mandy Tuttle said. “When they see their heroes come out on stage, it makes it all worth it.  They think the theater is magic and that these beloved characters are coming to life in front of their eyes!”

In addition to the amazing cast, Tuttle credits the production team with creating a really wonderful experience, through lighting, special effects, costumes and props.

“All of that draws audience members in immediately and holds their attention through the whole show,” she said. “It also helps that it’s a very well-paced, action-packed show.”

Worldwide, Frozen has become an immensely popular franchise. According to imbd.com, the first motion picture made more than $1.28 billion, making it the 16th highest grossing film of all time.  Frozen II comes in 10th on the list by grossing more than $1.42 billion.

Audiences enter the theatre already knowing the characters, which means there is a lot of pressure to get certain things right.

“Olaf needs to look like himself, little touches like the specific crown that Elsa wears, the songs, the freezing effects,” Tuttle said. “There are a lot of heavy expectations when it comes to a show like this, even if the familiarity of the characters is in itself a big draw. Fortunately, we have a very experienced group of theater veterans on the production team to whom magic in not a foreign concept!”
