8:26 a.m. A 32-year-old Canal Winchester woman tried to pass another vehicle near the intersection of Hill Road and Columbus Street and caused a collision.
August 4
10:47 a.m. Kemba Credit Union contacted Adult Protective Services after an 83-year-old woman withdrew a large amount of cash from her account. The woman told police that a friend with whom she had not spoken in some time had emailed her asking for $3,700 to buy her grandson a car. After withdrawing the money from her bank account, she mailed the cash to an address provided by her friend. An officer informed the woman that she had been scammed. Never send money to someone who contacts you by email without first independently verifying their identity.
12:27 p.m. Police cited a 19-year-old Columbus woman for reckless operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a license after she crashed her car on the off-ramp from I-70 onto Hill Road. The vehicle hit a tree and caught fire.
August 5
7:26 a.m. Overnight, suspects broke into multiple vehicles in the Landings neighborhood and stole a car. After a brief pursuit, police recovered the car as well as a second vehicle that had been stolen from Columbus.
3:23 p.m. Residents reported a suspicious person wandering through the Columbia Place Apartments and knocking on doors. Police confronted the suspect, a 38-year-old Columbus woman, who told officers she was trying to get a ride back to Columbus after friends drove her to Pickerington and abandoned her. Officers arrested her on a warrant out of Whitehall.
3:41 p.m. After an accident near Refugee Road, police cited a 26-year-old Westerville woman for driving the wrong direction on Hill Road.
7:20 p.m. A resident reported fraudulent checks made using his name and account number totaling approximately $3,000. Investigation pending.
August 6
4:43 p.m. A 25-year-old Pennsylvania woman told police that someone stole her rental car while she was inside South Beach Tanning Center. Gahanna police recovered the vehicle Aug. 9.
8:15 p.m. Petland asked police to issue a “No Trespass” order to a 53-year-old man who reportedly propositioned young female employees. Surveillance video showed the man inappropriately touching employees on multiple occasions while shopping at the store with his daughters.
August 7
4:25 a.m. Pickerington police deployed spike strips on I-70 to stop a red SUV that was fleeing Pataskala police. Although the SUV appeared to drive over the strips, the spikes did not puncture the tires. They did, however, damage the front tire of a Pataskala cruiser that was in close pursuit. Pickerington police were called off when Columbus police joined the chase. Shortly afterward, the 28-year-old suspect crashed the SUV and attempted to flee on foot but injured himself while trying to jump a fence and had to be taken to a hospital.
10:56 a.m. A resident in the Sycamore Creek neighborhood accidentally discharged a firearm. No injuries were reported.
12:56 p.m. A 67-year-old woman selling items on Facebook Marketplace contacted her buyer after she did not receive payment. The buyer referred her to a number for “Venmo Customer Service.” The person she spoke with convinced her to provide her bank account information and then withdrew $2,300. After realizing she had fallen victim to a scam, the woman contacted her bank, which determined that the bogus call center was connected to multiple international locations.
1:34 p.m. A 22-year-old woman who had recently been dismissed from Speedway told a former co-worker to stop telling people she had been fired or there would be consequences. The gas station asked police to issue the woman a “No Trespass” order.
4:56 p.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Malibu after clocking it traveling 50 mph in the 35-mph zone on Long Road. The driver, a 38-year-old Columbus man, was driving under a suspended license, had an expired registration and was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
August 8
9:01 a.m. Two bicycles were reportedly stolen from inside a garage in the Cherry Hill neighborhood, but the victims recovered the bikes later that day.
10:21 a.m. Following a traffic stop on Diley Road near Busey Road, a 23-year-old Pickerington woman was cited for improperly displaying her license plate and driving without a license.
3:38 p.m. After colliding with another car on Hill Road near Blacklick-Eastern Road, the driver of an SUV fled the scene but was later identified as a Whitehall man.
August 9
5:11 a.m. Sometime overnight, someone struck a mailbox on Hill Road.
2:26 p.m. The owner of a rental home reportedly received threats from his 45-year-old tenant after asking when the man planned to pay his rent.
