Curator for a Day: 2-Day Program for Teens/Tweens
In partnership with the Pickerington Historical Society
Learn what it takes to work in a museum, uncover local history, and create a display to share what you’ve learned! Day 1 (2pm-4pm) at Pickerington Historical Society Day 2 (10am-4pm) at Pickerington Main Library
This two-day program will teach participants the basics of museum work while discovering local history.
Tweens and teens will visit the Pickerington Historical Society to tour the museum and learn about Pickerington history and what museum curators do. They will then learn the basic skills behind curating museum exhibitions and conducting historical research. With that knowledge, they will curate an exhibition of their own using items in the Pickerington Historical Society and Pickerington Public Library Ohio collections. These completed exhibitions will be unveiled at the Historical Society and displayed at the Library for community members to learn about local history and see local teens’ work.
During the program, attendees will:
- Gain familiarity with the Pickerington Historical Society, its museum, and its role in the community;
- Gain familiarity with the Pickerington Public Library’s Ohio collection and the library’s role in the community;
- Understand and be able to replicate basic exhibition curation principles; and
- Be able to identify and use historical research sources.
