Pickerington Police:

Times are rounded to the nearest quarter hour.

April 4

5:00 pm: A Pickerington resident reported that he was contacted by a man claiming to be ‘David or Derrick Jones” from the telephone number (805) 253-7973 who introduced himself as a representative from a “tech company that works for Best Buy”.  Jones said that his company had accidentally refunded the resident $15,700 instead of the $600 which was owed to him.

The resident was instructed to travel to multiple branches of his bank to withdraw the money, then deposit the $15,100 of cash into a Bitcoin machine at “the Smoke Shop at McNaughten Center” which is just east of the outer belt on Main Street.

The next day, Jones called back to say that the transaction did not go through, and he instructed the resident to repeat the process but instead deposit the cash in the Bitcoin machine at a Sunoco on East Broad Street.

On April 16, the resident went to the Pickerington Police Department to report the theft.

April 5

2:15 pm: Someone broke into a vehicle parked in the Hampton Inn lot on Winderly Lane and stole a circular saw.

3:00 pm: A 20-year-old Pickerington man received burns on his arms and face when his Jeep caught fire in the parking lot of Amber Park.  The man had driven his girlfriend to a job interview and decided to smoke marijuana while he waited for her to return.  A can of butane had rolled under the seat and a hole had been punctured in the side of the can from the seat being adjusted.  With the windows closed, the butane filled the Jeep, and when the man lit his pipe he ignited a flash fire.

April 6

Sometime between 11:00 pm & 6:30 am April 7: In the neighborhood behind the self-storage facility at Milnor and Refugee Roads, someone went through three cars and stole cash, credit cards and a backpack full of school supplies.  There was no sign of forced entry. The cards were used Thursday morning at various gas stations around Canal Winchester to purchase gift cards and lottery tickets.
