With the performance dates for the fall musical being so close to Halloween, the Millersport Community Theatre (MCT) decided to play into that spirit of the season while still being light-hearted and fun. Hence, the show, Young Frankesntein, will be presented October 22- 24 at the Millersport Elementary School Auditorium.
“Whether you know the movie or not, there’s something for anyone to enjoy in this show,” said director Brenton LeuVoy. “It is rated PG-13, due to some more adult themes being present, but it’s a hilarious romp of a show that’s filled with slapstick, witty humor, and some show-stopping musical numbers that will be sure to entertain anyone who comes to see it.”
Young Frankenstein (West End Version) is a musical written by Mel Brooks that is directly based on his film of the same name that was released in 1974 and starred Gene Wilder. It is sort of a pseudo-sequel/parody of the classic 1930s films Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein featuring Colin Clive and Boris Karloff.
The grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds
“This show is full of big, lively musical numbers that everyone is bound to go home singing,” LeuVoy said. “It even includes Irving Berlin’s classic hit Puttin’ on the Ritz. The show is just full of light, funny energy and the music is a big driving force to complement the jokes and physical comedy that come with each and every scene.”
For those who caught MCT’s The Wedding Singer, there will be some familiar faces, but a handful of new artists have also joined the production.
“We’ve pulled from all over for this show,” LeuVoy said. “While we have a lot of cast members that are local to the Millersport area, we’ve also pulled some in from Columbus, Zanesville, and even Athens for this one.”
Tickets are $15 and reserved seating, so it is best to buy your tickets online at www.mctohio.com ahead of time. Show dates/times are October 22 and 23 at 7:30 pm and October 24 at 2:00 pm. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. The show will take place at Millersport Elementary School Auditorium (11850 Lancaster Street, Millersport).
