SUMMARY:Civil War RoundTable Presents: General Grant by Himself
DESCRIPTION:The Fairfield County Heritage Association has an exciting presentation for this Civil War RoundTable! Dr. Curt Fields will be visiting and performing as General Grant! Dr. Fields has portrayed General and President Grant in 22 states as he travels the nation presenting his portrayal of General and President Ulysses S. Grant. He researches and reads extensively about General Grant in order to deliver an accurate persona of the General. His presentations are in first person\, quoting from General Grant’s Memoirs; articles and letters the General wrote\, statements he made in interviews or wrote himself\, and first-person accounts of people who knew the General or were with him and witnessed him during events. He is the same height and body style as General Grant and\, therefore\, presents a convincing\, true-to-life image of the man as he really looked.\n\nAdmission is $5 at the door\, and everyone is welcome! To learn more\, visit FCHA’s Facebook page. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Scipio Smith Day – Statue Unveiling
DESCRIPTION:Join the Fairfield County Heritage Association for the unveiling of the Scipio Smith Statue in Downtown Lancaster on Scipio Smith Day!\n\nThe celebration will take place in the Park National Bank parking lot located between the Ohio Glass Museum and the Fairfield County Municipal Court building (The Columbian). After the celebration and speeches\, the statue will be unveiled\nDon’t miss this historic event!\n[There will be limited seating for those unable to stand; the parking lot will be closed for the celebration]\n\nWho was Scipio Smith?\nScipio was a former slave who was brought to Lancaster and received his freedom on May 29\, 1821. In 1825\, he founded the A.M.E. Church (present-day Allen Chapel) and placed a school inside so that black residents could have a place to worship and receive an education. In 1827\, he opened his own tinsmith shop which made him the first black businessman in the city. Scipio overcame slavery\, racism and disability (he lost a leg as a child) to beat the odds and open doors for many who came after him. His story is inspiring\, powerful and something worth celebrating!\n\nFind additional info on Facebook!\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n Like this:Like Loading…
